You may have noticed this blog being a little worse than usual the past week. Reason being, I was on vacation in Santa Fe and had slightly different priorities than usual.
One thing I don't talk about much here is that I love art books, and Santa Fe is in fact a great place to buy them. It has one of the best arts scenes in the United States, and when you don't have $20,000 to purchase the original a nice book of the artist's work is about as close as you're going to get.
While in town I laid hands on these books:
- Diego Rivera: A Retrospective
- Georgia O'Keeffe and New Mexico: A Sense of Place
- Boris Chetkov: Across All Barriers — this one was sold directly at the Pushkin Gallery in Santa Fe and, I believe, is fairly hard to lay hands on
Here are images from each:
And once I pay an arm and a leg to have it framed, this acquisition from the trip will be hanging from a wall:
And lastly, while I was in town I discovered a copy of Great Classical Myths from The Modern Library, which collects translations of Greek and Roman myths from the likes of Dryden, Coleridge, and many others. I bought this at the incomparable Nicholas Potter Bookseller, which any bibliophile in Santa Fe should definitely make a stop at.
