This is the loveliest passage in Philip Glass’s 3rd symphony. And if you wait till the end, you get a German (?) lesson.
Of course, if you can track down a copy of the symphony, then you can listen to the entire movement and get the pleasure of watching him build up to this part. Definitely worth your while.

I’m partial to the Low Symphony. Do you know that one?
German? Definitely not. It’s Dutch! And we really really hate to be taken for Germans :-)

Like his colleagues, Reich and Adams (so-called minimalists – though very different stylistically), have written some exquisitely addictive music. Try also Glass’s early opera ‘Einstein on the Beach’ and the String Quartets – a guaranteed high!
Soundtrack to The Hours is to my mind his best work.
